The project breif was simple. The cleints wanted a garden that would stop traffic. The site presented the landscape designer with a number of opportunities as well as constraints. The soil in the front garden was very slow draining in Winter and bone dry in summer.
The site is located in Narre Warren on a quiet residential street. The existing driveway curved around the front garden and isolated it from the rest of the surrounding garden. It was felt that the site should reflect the openess of the surrounding wetland areas as well as make a bold architectural statement. The original concept was to create large planter boxes that looked similar to lego stacked throughout the site. This concept was further refined so that two garden bed areas where created and seperated by a runway of lawn.
The garden is seen from 3 distinct viewing points. The first of these is from the start of the drive, the second is from the front door and the final is from the end of the driveway.
