Botanical Traditions - Domestic Residence

After many years the owners of this garden decided it was time to redesign their existing front garden. The front garden faced east and had been terraced a number of years earlier. A large Quercus in the nature strip meant that the sandy soil was very dry. The existing garden consisted of cotoneasters, fish bone ferns and other assorted shrubs.  The clients wanted a garden that has a large amount of seasonal interest.  A design was developed that made the most of the shady setting by using a light coloured paving material and a large amount of colour variation in plant leaf colour.

To give the clients and their neighbours greater privacy a tall stainless steel screen was designed to be installed along the boundary of the property. The garden has the atmospheric setting of a woodland area that leads people to the front entrance of the house. The effect is that the house appears to be nestled within the garden. Once inside the house the back windows look across the back garden in what will soon be stage two of the project.

In stage two a more formal entertainment area will be provided to allow a smooth transition from the inside entertainment areas to the exterior entertainment areas. Again this area forms a terrace and allows a glimpse into the lower lawn area of the garden. The geometric framework of this area will blend happily with the existing intrinsic values of the mature elements of the landscape.
