Botanical Traditions - Greywater Treatment Application Forms
Are you installing a Greywater Treatment System? If so, you probably need to submit an greywater application for approval to your local council prior to installation commencing.
In Victoria
In Victoria you will commonly have to lodge an application form with complete system details including the type of treatment system and EPA approval certificate, a landscape plan to scale which shows the garden layout including the buildings, boundaries, garden areas, lawn areas and irrigation. In addition to this you may need to provide irrigation details, horticultural soil details and a description of soil amelioration techniques. After installation some councils also require an as constructed plan to be submitted before they issue the permit for use.
The Process
Not all councils are the same and not all councils are experienced with Greywater Treatments systems, however it helps greatly to have a set of professionally presented plans submitted with your permit application form. Generally the process is as outlined below:
1. Plans and Permit Application submitted
2. Site Meeting Council Representative and Plumber/Owner
3. Approval to Install granted by Council and permit posted to plumber and home owner
4. Plumber Carries out Installation
5. Site Meeting with Council Representative and Plumber/Owner
6. Approval to Use granted by Council and permit posted to plumber and home owner
7. System can be Used by home owner
The cost and time taken for this process is dependant on the council. Some councils have a 4 week turn around, while others can take up to 12 months to approve systems.
